Parker Pens Make a Mark
Fine writing instruments like Parker pens have been around for as long as many
of us can remember. I can vividly recall role models like teachers and bosses
wielding both power and style with a Parker pen at hand. Even to this day, Parker
pens are brandished in workplaces or campuses everywhere as stylish and essential
tools for diverse uses as signing important documents to writing a check, to
scribbling a love letter, and so on.
The company behind the Parker line of pens which has undergone enormous transformation
in terms of design and pricing dates back to 1888 in Wisconsin. The first
pen patent was obtained by George S. Parker in 1889. Leaving their mark as
the top of the line models were the Parker Lucky Duofold and the Streamlined
Duofold.
When the G.S. Parker company launched in the marketplace the Parker 51, it
ushered major design improvements that other major players replicated with
their own versions. The Parker 51 has found wide use not just among ordinary
folks but the rich and famous as well. Among the famous Parker 51 pen users
were Gen. Douglas McArthur. He used it to sign papers to signify the cessation
of hostilities at the end of World War II. It will be recalled, as evidenced
by old news footages, that former Presidents of the United States like President
Kennedy and President Eisenhower, had also used Parker 51 at some point in
their illustrious political careers. Less costly versions of the Parker 51
were produced later on.
Indeed, the Parker phenomenon is highlighted by its enduring collection of
fountain pens. Through the years, there have been continuous product developments
in varying sizes. Parker pens are a pleasure to own and use, not only because
they add flair to writing without costing a fortune, but also because they
mirror certain milestones or signal historical events. For instance, there
is a US-made vintage 1930s Parker depression fountain pen that speaks volumes
about that era.
Among the noteworthy styles of Parker fountain pens is the one which is part
of the Duofold Collection, which was originally crafted in the 1920s, but
has undergone major tweaks with each passing decade. Also counted among the
earliest forerunners of the new-generation Parker pens is the Parker 21. Made
in the USA in 1949, the first edition model may be ordered in online sites
for less than two hundred dollars. Further browsing will lead you to discover
awesome vintage 1960s Parker pens, like the Jotter ballpoint pen with white
colored barrel. Auction sites are aplenty, all enticing aficionados of Parker
fountain pens to purchase the perfect style that will best reflect their individual
personalities, tastes and requirements.
To date, Parker has reached the celebration of its Centennial year, and its
innovation continues. Whether it is an affordably chic ballpoint pen that
doubles as a handy fashion accessory or a vintage late 1950s Parker 61 Mark
II fountain pen with solid gold hooded nib, or any of the wide range in between,
Parker pens are destined to be the writing instrument of choice of many individuals.
